Police make third arrest in alleged baseball bat beating

NORWALK?-- Police made a third arrest Saturday in connection with an alleged baseball bat beating on Nov. 30.

Erika Lucas, 23, of 93 Woodward Ave., was charged with breach of peace. She posted $500 bond and given a court date of Jan. 17.

Lucas, who goes by the street name "Poppin'," was among a group of women who got into an altercation with Shaina Sawyer on Nov. 30, according to police.

Sawyer told officers that she was struck in the back with a bat -- which was said to be a small, two-to-three-foot souvenir bat -- while making her way downstairs in building 21 at Roodner Court and when she fell to the ground, the assailants repeatedly hit her with the bat, spit on her and pulled her hair, police said.

She received three staples in her head at Norwalk Hospital and had bruises on her face, police said.

Lashunda Jackson was named as the main aggressor in the fight, and Sawyer said Lucas pulled her hair and held her down while Jackson beat her, according to an affidavit.

However, additional witnesses said Sawyer started the fight by spitting and cursing at Jackson, police said. The witnesses also said Lucas tried to break up the fight, police said.

Sawyer was arrested Friday for breach of peace. She is also free after posting bond.

Jackson was arrested Thursday for second-degree assault and breach of peace. She is free on $15,000 bond.
