Report: Lamborghini Crossover SUV Rumored

Posted: 02 Feb 2012 04:46 AM PST

In a perfect world you could build an automobile for the masses, no matter how?daring?or bold the design was,?and the majority of auto enthusiasts would naturally be attracted to your new creation. The same thing can be said for many new crossover SUVs, especially in the luxury market. Here in America we have taken a special liking to luxury crossovers such as the Porsche Cayenne, Range Rover Evoque and even the BMW X5/X6. Undoubtedly, there is a vast market for such vehicles.

The latest luxury automaker to reportedly have plans to roll out a new luxury crossover SUV, is Lamborghini. We already got wind of Bentley having an SUV on the drawing board while Maserati recently uncovered the Kubang concept, so this news is no surprise to us.

Automotive rumors are sometimes like the bubonic plague; sure it spreads fast, but you never really confirm its legitimacy until you experience the real thing for yourself.

According to Autonews, a senior source at Audi confirmed reports of Lamborghini getting into the SUV market with an aggressively styled crossover vehicle. Lately, images of such a vehicle have been circulating over the social networks and various automotive blogs from the Italian magazine Quattroruote.

There is really no reason for us to doubt this rumor especially considering that Lamborghini has stated that they will have "two surprises" for upcoming auto shows. One surprise for Beijing and one for Geneva. Quite possibly, one of the two surprises will be a new Lamborghini Aventador Roadster while the other may be the rumored crossover SUV.

Top Gear USA Is Back For Season 3: Are You Watching?

Posted: 01 Feb 2012 11:34 AM PST

The American version of Top Gear is back for its third season, beginning on Tuesday, February 14 at 9:00. All three hosts return, so expect to see more drifting from Tanner Foust, more jokes from Adam Ferrara and more flannel from Rutledge Wood. If the clips we've seen so far are any indication, it looks like the series' budget may be creeping upward with its ratings, and that's a good thing.

Yes, we know the show isn't the equivalent of it's English cousin, but keep in mind that Clarkson, May and Hammond have had a decade longer to perfect their version. The U.K. show's seemingly unlimited budget helps, too, since nothing draws in viewers like expensive cars, bodily-harm-inducing stunts and exotic locations. Given what Foust, Ferrara and Wood have to work with, we'd say they're doing the best they can.

Besides, with the demise of The Car Show, Top Gear USA is all we have to call our own. It improved from the first season to the second season, and we're expecting it to do the same this year. We'll be tuning in, but here's the question ? are you watching the third season, or have you given up on the show entirely?

Volkswagen?s Super Bowl Spot Goes Long: Video

Posted: 01 Feb 2012 06:30 AM PST

Volkswagen was one of the first automakers to release a teaser video for its upcoming Super Bowl ad, and we couldn't see how dogs barking the Imperial March from Star Wars had anything to do with selling VWs. Sure, its Darth Vader spot was the unexpected hit of last year's Super Bowl, but going back to the same well for inspiration two years in a row rarely works well.

The good news is that VW's actual big game ad doesn't feature dogs barking in harmony, and the Star Wars connection comes from out in left field. Yes, there's a dog (who takes inspiration from the all new VW Turbo Beetle), and there's even a scaled-down Darth Vader. We're not sure if that works for two years in a row; in fact, we're not even sure if the ad works at all.

It seems to us that VW spent a serious amount of money on licensing for licensing sake. Last year's Star Wars tie-in was funny, since most of us could picture doing something similar when we were kids. This year the connection just isn't there, and the whole intergalactic cantina scene really doesn't add to the video.

Maybe we've just seen one too many Super Bowl car ads this year, and we need a fresh perspective. What's your take? Does the latest VW ad work via some Jedi mind trick that we're immune to, or is it something that not even Yoda himself could save?
